Uisneach: The Hearth of Ireland (5m 19s)

A trailer for the short animated film "Uisneach: The Hearth of Ireland" (2026).

 

The film premiered in August 2026 at the Boyne Valley Film Festival and will be screened in September at Clare Island Film Festival. The film combines history and myth as it explores the first archaeological excavations to take place in the new Irish State in 1925. They were undertaken by RA Macalister and Robert Praeger at the Hill of Uisneach in Co. Westmeath.

 

This project was the recipient of the 2025 Commemorative Animation Award from Westmeath County Council.

 

It was funded by the Commemorations Initiative from the Department of Culture, Communications, and Sport, through a joint venture between Westmeath County Council and Screen Ireland's National Talent Academies Animation.
